Maundy (Holy) Thursday

The Last Supper © 2004 John August Swanson | Eyekons

Prayer

Lord God, you have left us a memorial of your suffering and death for us in a wonderful sacramental meal. May this sacrament of your body and blood so work in us that the way we live will proclaim to the world what you have done. We pray in your most holy name. Amen.

Lessons

Psalm 116; Exodus 12:1-14; Luke 22:7-20

The Passover meal that Christ longed to eat with his disciples before he was betrayed by Judas, deserted by the disciples, and suffered on the cross became the precious feast of the Lord's Supper, our Holy Communion. It was the final prediction of his passion and impending death and assurance that his suffering and death would have eternal benefits for the believers who gather around his table in faith. Easter and its Eucharist are begun!
